Project Thursday: TUME the return
6 years ago I started a project with a simple goal; to create a comic book only using my mobile phone.
The plan was to was a series of apps to take pictures, turn those pictures in to compositions, transform those compositions in to line art and add text.
The original effect was something like this:
For the most part I really enjoyed this project, the story line of an off kilter lunatic who comes unstuck in time presented an endless landscape of possibilities.
Ultimately it fell off because, well simply put my mobile device got full, my life got busy and eventually I got a new phone which no longer supported some of the apps.
6 years later I found my self several weeks in to a stay at home order with a good increase in free time. I struggled to find a project to sink into. I hoped to renew my live stream, but that didn’t work out. Most of my set up has been cannanblised by the cuteavalanche stream. Then in searching a hard drive, I found the majority of the TUME comic book project.
I’d only made it to about page 6 in creating assets, which was actually more than I’d remembered and some of those panels and cells are still missing, but it was enough to spark me to seeing if I could pick up the peices.
I’ve turned to Photoshop to try and replicate the style and for the most part I think it’s working out well.
Beyond doing blog post about the project’s progress, I’m not planning on releasing panels until I have an “issue” or 22ish pages done. My plan is to create a full page as well Instagram versions of each cell. I’ll release the cells as image galleries on Instagram and pages either here on this blog or it’s own dedicated blog.
There are a few limitations and tweaks I want to make that I’m not sure will make it to the first version. Shadows for one, I’ve yet to find a solid method of creation so I may do what many comics do and just ignore them.
I could probably go on and on over this, but I’d rather actually get back to working on it 😀
