8 years ago I got to direct this awesome video, written by Amy Voraphl. I just realized it (like so many of my videos) was not yet on my blog, so I thought I’d take this opportunity to post it. You can find the lyrics below.

If you’re curious about the making of this video, the thought behind it, yadda yadda. Obviously it started as two things, a Parody of ‘Love Song’ and a giant mash up of everything was that hitting viral back on youtube in the summer of 2008.

Somethings are still viral hit makers, and others one hit wonders or even hit makers that faded away.

While we were making this, I had the idea to have this Journey for our Hero, youtube vlogger Amy. we start out in her apartment as most vloggers do, she’s inside, alone and shooting with a pretty crappy camera. And in fact we used that camera to film this portion of the video.

She gets a taste of fame, she meets new people who want in on her thing, she gets a camera upgrade (which again in the video she did).

Finally now in internet famous mode, everyone is coming for her, she’s got a fan base and they’re ravenous to the point of karate. She does the only thing she can, and that’s hide with the youtube elite, Ask a Ninja, Chris Crocker, Charles Trippy, etc. And now she’s moved up from a camcorder to a 4 camera shoot with some really nice cameras, they were all different but I’m pretty sure at least one was a Canon XH A1 which back the was the gold standard. Now it’s a doorstop.

It’s pretty crazy to look back at this and think it was 8 years ago, but also to see how much has changed in only 8 years.

Lyrics

a message on myspace

with the title R.O.F.L.M.A.O

you sent me another one of your short vids

it’s probably you

with a webcam or two

and some titles, white on blue

might be amusing, but i won’t L.O.L.

you want maximum views,

get famous off of youtube

you work hard

but i don’t have time for you

i’m not gonna click on your youtube

cause the link is on

your away message, you see

I’m not gonna click on your youtube

cause you tell me it

needs a million hits

if you want to try

you could keep pressing F5

if you want a reputation, I’m gonna need more motivation to click on your youtube online

You learned the hard way

That to get paid

Gotta get those ratings up

You’re not viral yet but

You’re trying hard to be

Like Obama Girl

The Landlord Pearl

Hokay so this is the world

Hello, you got Rick Rolled

You are not Chocolate Rain

Chris Crocker or David Blaine!

Broadcast yourself but don’t embed it in my brain!

I’m not gonna click on your youtube

cause you posted it

on my facebook, you see

i’m not gonna click on your youtube

cause you tell me it

needs a million hits

if you want to try

you could keep pressing F5

if you want a reputation, I’m gonna need more motivation to click on your youtube online

Promise me

You’ll take me off your list

And let me be

Before I get way pissed

Cause I believe Kimbo was getting famous but not because

I clicked on his youtube

and embedded it

on my profile, you see

so i’m not gonna click on your youtube

cause you say you need

me to comment please

Is that why you needed a youtube

put the URL

on your weblog, you see

i’m not gonna click on your youtube

cause you tell me it

needs a thousand hits

if you want to try

you could keep pressing F5

It’s easy distribution but I hate inbox pollution

If you make it on a show, then I will finally have a motive to click on your youtube online.
