John Oliver covers the ridiculousness of sports stadiums on Last Week Tonight as many people don’t realize that stadiums often get huge tax breaks and investments from public funds.

The problem, as clearly stated in the video, is that none of the events held at the stadium bring revenue back to the city/ tax payers who funded its construction. Further, the overall economic impact of the stadium is not favourable. There are better places for money to be spent, having a stadium is not more important than providing education.
