Episode One

For those of you who remember this show from my stickam days, we’ll be bringing back the live stream soon, possibly this next recording session (Thursday 2pm). Though the main focus is going to be the podcast element for the time being.

Please check out the episode, show your support and link to http://kickinshow.com, tweet us and (as soon as I get them done) ad our badge to your blog!

While we’re posting these up on the Kick In Show web page, with all the info about the campaigns I’ll be using my own website as a more reflective element to talk about the production process.

Here we go – podcasting 101

This first week out of the gate, Art Tebbel and I joined together once again to ‘do podcasting’. In the past we’ve split out focus between podcasting and live streaming, and Robert Chan was responsible for recording and cutting the audio portions of ‘Pizza Games and Zombies’ and ‘Asking For a Friend’. I took this responsibility on myself this go around, and have immediately found my set up has much to be desired.

For starters we’re sharing a single mic, which I knew going in was not ideal. but we wanted to get started, a second mic (thanks to Art) will be coming to us in the near future. Though I may also try using the mac’s built in mic this next go around and just sync the sound… though honestly unless I get a better software solution, I don’t think that’ll be any better.

I’ll talk more about the software in the next episodes blog. Today just hardware.

I’m also using a very old box (not even a real sound board) to pull the mic in and then run a single channel in to Audacity. I don’t remember offhand the name or company. I’ll reflect on that once it’s in front of me in a future post. It’s fine for what it does, and when I use it when live streaming people say it sounds great. But there is a slight buzz and I just know we can do better as we grow.

Finally the one mic we do have is also about 20 years old, primarily a music mic and captures all the sound it can possibly capture. Noise from the backyard or alley is easily picked up and I’m sure a hard ‘P’ will send a back chilling spike through the wave form. But it’s better than just recording a podcast with our iphones (I think) 😉

All in all it’s the best we can do right now, and we hope to improve our tech as we go.
