Cheesy Criminal Sues Pizzeria for Thwarting Robbery
It’s been said that ‘If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again’. But in the case of Nigel Sykes, he should just give it up. In 2010, the then 19-year old Sykes attempted to rob a Seasons Pizza restaurant in Newport, Deleware. Why anyone would try to do anything in Deleware is beyond me but this attempt failed miserably. He entered the restaurant through the back and displayed a firearm while demanding money. The pizza purveyors were able to wrestle Sykes to the ground until police arrived to arrest him. Pretty cut and dry right? Well, not according to Sykes…
Nigel Sykes (now 23), says the pizzeria owes him $260,000 in damages for the ass-beating he took after trying to rob the joint. In Sykes self-written complaint, he states that Seasons pizza employees “punched, kicked, and poured hot soup” on him, ultimately rendering him unconscious. Now, while it would be unpleasant for anyone to be on the receiving end of a beating dealt out by people who are probably already annoyed with douchebag customers as it is, it sounds to me like Sykes got off light. I wouldn’t want to mess with guys who toss pizza dough all day. Have you seen their forearms? Although, who really knows what they did to him after he lost consciousness. I’d probably propose more pizza pummelings, personally.
Surprisingly, this is actually the second time Sykes has tried to sue the restaurant. However, his 2011 complaint (which was thrown out) alleged that he was coerced by a third party to rob Seasons Pizza. Sure, it might sound plausible, but the fact that Sykes was connected with eight other robberies including a bank, three other pizzerias, two fast food restaurants and two convenience stores, doesn’t exactly help his case. And neither does Syke’s own admission that he’s “not good at making good choices”. No shit.
But in the lighter side of pizza-related crimefighting news, this also happened. So yay![youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCN1Jj-o65o]
