Mick Jagger Blamed for Jinxing World Cup
If you’re playing in the World Cup, you better hope Mick Jagger isn’t rooting for you. It seems as though every team he’s supported or predicted victory for has been soundly trounced. And it’s not even limited to this year! Apparently, this Mick Jagger curse was started in 2010 when he supported the United States team against Ghana. The U.S. lost 2-1. The very next day in his home country, Mr. Jagger watched England lose to Germany. And then in the quarterfinal round of that year, who shows up at the Brazil-Holland game in a Brazilian jersey? That’s right. Mick Jagger the Cursed.
Flashforward to 2014 and his predictions were not just off but way off. The Rolling Stones frontman named Portugal and England as his picks for the top two teams. First of all… Portugal? Maybe his current girlfriend is Portuguese or something. Nothing against the Portuguese but I just don’t see what the country and Mick Jagger have in common. Regardless, both Portugal and England were gone by the group round. And, like other non-soccer fans, I will just pretend to know what ‘group round’ means. When this year’s semifinal round began with Brazil still in the running, Mick was begged to stay far away and to offer no words of encouragement. Basically, to just keep his big lips shut. Some fans even went as far as to bring cardboard cut-outs of Mick Jagger wearing a German jersey.
Obviously, with the brutal 7-1 German victory over Brazil, this plan failed miserably. Perhaps a facsimile of Mick Jagger holds no true power. Perhaps this man’s physical energy and presence are factors in his dark cloud of dark magic. Or maybe he’s just incredibly unlucky. Well, yeah, that’s probably not it… Anyway, here’s a clip of those guys with the cut-out. All I can understand is “Mick Jagger”.
