The internet has been in a tizzy since the Godzilla trailer was released so I figured I needed to watch it. This, this is it here:

I’ve never been a huge Godzilla fan, I’m not exactly sure those even exist on the scale of a Star Trek or Star Wars fan. but I’ve always liked the concept of a giant flightless lizard monster that runs amok trampling the city underneath his feet. I honestly don’t know the original mythos of Godzilla, or if there was anymore thought than “We should make a giant lizard monster movie”, but I think in my writer’s eye the story is one on par with the Creator from the Black Lagoon or The Swamp Thing. It’s one part Nature’s Revenge one part Man is Evil… so I guess Avatar or Fern Gully… Which this movie seems to be leading to in it’s trailer. I just last night started watching the last few episodes of Breaking Bad (now on netflix, go go go) and I was thinking to myself just how excellent that cast of actors are (especially Cranston and Paul) so having Bryan Cranston in it doesn’t hurt. But honestly there’s nothing here that shines. It’s a very flat, feels very typical of a Disaster movie mixed with a giant monster. Man cannot defeat Godzilla, he shouldn’t be able to. So what’s the movie here? And I guess that’s what the selling appeal should be “Omg how is dumb little humans going to beat giant indestructible god lizard!?” But that isn’t a draw, that’s a no brainer “He doesn’t, man dies, gets swept off the face of the planet.. movie over don’t care. night night, give me Raisinets” I’d much rather see Godzilla fight Mothra or Gamera or Mechagodzilla… something that makes sense (I’m aware of what I just said). So this is a meh, for me. I’ll watch it on netflix maybe and only after a long list of other things.
