R.I.P. Philip Seymour Hoffman (1967-2014)
It’s not often that a celebrity death hits me hard; Phil Hartman, Joey & Dee Dee Ramone, Dom Deluise… There were my Kennedy moments. These were the ones that l remember the most.
and Hoffman is up there on that list.
What was your favorite role by Philip Seymour Hoffman? – I think I love him most as Pirate Radio’s Count.
His death came as a shock, I knew nothing about his battle with drug addiction and alcoholism, though I’m not surprised to find out now that it existed. Any actor who takes on the types of roles he had, that should be a red flag.
If you can’t tell by now this is less about the facts of the story; Philip Seymour Hoffman dead at 46. Found dead in his New York apartment, apparently with a needle still in his arm. He leaves behind three children and partner Mimi O’Donnell. This is a plea to all the celebrities out there: Get your shit together.
There are people out there that love you, people you don’t know, people you will never know. But they know you and they live through your actions, watch you grow and change and cheer you on. Because you are larger than life. I don’t ‘get’ addiction. I understand how stressful acting can be, how easy it is to feel the performance you’ve just given was either totally emotionally draining or completely and utterly flat. Either way you’re bound to walk out of most performances unhappy, you could always do better or you’ve done so good now you are a piece of that character. Both burdens that are not fair to put on anyone.
So people turn to crutches to get them through what they’ve done.
To all the celebs in the world out there, you have your fans – out live them!
