IRL Social networking
So the cafe I frequent has implemented a new cross over Social networking venture called http://www.coffeewall.com
This is pretty brilliant. We’re all here looking over at everyone else’s table already. We’ve checked in to Foursquare to let people know where we are and now, they can know who we are.
Coffee Wall, apparently knows which local cafe you’re at from your wifi signal and let’s you create a profile that is visible to everyone at that cafe.
This is pretty slick. Every table has a little plaque telling people they can do this.
There’s currently like 5 profiles that have been created. Assuming they rolled it out today or yesterday that’s not bad. It’s not great. considering 75% of the tables here have laptops on them, I’m a little shocked. We’ll have to see how many people are on it in a week.
While I think the idea of it is awesome – I mean shit, we’re really trying to bring back that personal connection people used to have with their community – I think the execution is a little sparse right now.
I’d like to see a little more than just a profile and ‘market’ section.
- Chat room
- and as ironic as it might be, a video chat
would seem like obvious things to include in a Social Network of this caliber.http://www.samproof.tv/2010/11/02/irl-social-networking/Lifecafe,coffee,communities,friends,fun,irl,Life,networking,social networkingSo the cafe I frequent has implemented a new cross over Social networking venture called http://www.coffeewall.com This is pretty brilliant.
