On Being Different
I just watched this from Michael Buckley aka Whatthebuck
I wasn’t Gay growing up, I wasn’t a minority, hell I wasn’t even a girl so I can honestly say I’ve probably never come close to feeling the things other people have felt. And dear god it must be ten times worse in other some countries.
However growing up, even on the east coast where people are “open” and free to be who they are, I know I myself felt very lost as a teen and pre-teen. I was a punk and an artist trying to just find myself I didn’t have any revolutionary social moray break ground to make, but even still I never felt “part of the team”.
That’s the thing though, this thought that I know believe we all have, that there’s something out there that’s “normal’ a majority model for a person to be… I think everyone in America, hell in the world grows up thinking that this thing exists and more over “I don’t fit the mold”, “I’m not it“
Nobody’s normal. Nobody is perfect. Nobody is any better then you are.
Sure maybe you’ve got a harder battle ahead of yourself if you’re gay or ethnic or a girl (or all three).
But you know what, at least at the point that you’re fighting this battle – you know WHO you are.
Some people go their whole lives trying to figure themselves out, and having this little battle, you can look at it as the thing that keeps you from being normal – Or you can identify it as the thing that separates you from the rest.
